Slide the blade against the alignment pin and one clamping thumbscrew to square it, then adjust the blade projection until it corresponds to the desired bevel angle. Once set, tighten the remaining clamping screw. The jig holds the blade at that angle consistently as you slide it across the tool rest.

The jig fits directly in the groove of the Veritas Grinder Tool Rest. For other tool rests, riding ledges on the sides of the jig provide the necessary registration surface, so it is compatible with most power and hand grinders that have a flat tool rest.
