Veritas Bar Gauge Heads

Bar gauges have two main uses: comparing measurements (such as checking equal diagonals to confirm a carcass is square) and transferring dimensions directly from one location to another. They are especially useful for inside measurements like shelf sizing or window trim, where direct transfer avoids the conversion errors common with tape measures.

The gauge head openings accept 1/4" thick by 3/4" wide slats. You rip these from any standard 3/4" hardwood in your shop; the heads fit slats of any length so you can make bars sized for the job at hand.

The two included brass pins let you transfer measurements smaller than the bar length, and allow you to record an inside measurement and then compare it to an outside measurement without switching tip styles.

The heads are made from brass and ABS plastic.

Yes. Bar gauges function well as story sticks for complex built-ins where walls or surfaces are not square, letting you capture and transfer irregular measurements that would be difficult to record accurately with a tape measure.
