Q: Why is the blade skewed on this plane?

The 30° skew reduces cut resistance, improves shaving clearance, and helps pull the fence tight against the workpiece.

Q: How wide and deep a rabbet can I cut?

The fence allows a maximum rabbet width of 1 1/2", and the adjustable shoe limits depth to 3/4" (or you can remove the shoe for no depth limit).

Together they let you handle any grain direction, since each works best cutting in a particular direction relative to the grain.

Large brass knobs let you adjust the fence quickly, while double guide rods and a collet locking system keep it from racking.
