Gent's saws were originally developed for "gentleman's" tool kits, intended for those who wanted good-quality tools for occasional work without full-size equipment, and remain useful for fine joinery today.
The 20 tpi rip saw has a 14° rake angle for cutting with the grain, while the 22 tpi crosscut saw has a 15° rake angle with alternating bevel-filed teeth that sever wood fibers rather than tear them.
Both the rip and crosscut versions have a cut depth of 1 5/8", which is enough for most fine joinery and detail work.
