It simplifies hinge installation in cabinets and boxes by letting a template-guided router waste material from the hinge gain, leaving a clean, precisely sized mortise that needs no trimming other than squaring the corners with a chisel.
It accommodates hinge leaves from 1/2" to 2" long and from 1/4" to 1" wide.
A 4 1/2" × 7 1/2" acrylic plate registers against one surface of the workpiece and a 9 3/4" long pine fence registers against the perpendicular surface.
The template has a 1/16" offset, so use a template guide with an outside diameter 1/8" larger than the bit, for example a 3/8" guide with a 1/4" bit.
No, the adjustable opening butts against the edges of each hinge and sets the dimensions by direct reference, so size variations between individual pieces of hardware won't carry into your finished work.
