Veritas Sharpening System

After honing the primary bevel, you turn the guide-setting knob to shift the roller to a slightly higher position, which changes the honing angle by a small amount. This creates a narrow micro-bevel at the cutting edge without unclamping or resetting the blade. Because the secondary bevel is small, less steel is removed and a sharp edge is reached quickly.

Used with the Veritas Angle Jig, the guide sets blade projection for any of five bevel angles: 15°, 20°, 25°, 30° and 35°. The spring-loaded cam roller locks positively at each angle setting, making it repeatable from session to session.

The guide holds blades up to 2 3/8" wide and up to 5/8" thick, covering narrow carving chisels through wide bench plane irons. It also accepts tapered and spokeshave blades.

The wide roller and the positive positioning of the angle jig automatically square the blade as you register it. Parallel lines on the bed provide a visual check so you can confirm alignment before beginning to hone.

No, stones are not included. The system consists of the honing guide and angle jig; sharpening stones are available separately. The guide is compatible with standard-size bench water stones and oil stones.
