Felt Wheels

A hard felt wheel is best for chisels and plane blades where you want to maintain a predetermined bevel angle without rounding it. A medium felt wheel is firmer than soft felt but still allows some controlled bevel rounding, which is desirable for carving tools because a slight radius on the bevel adds edge strength.

A narrow 1/2" medium wheel is best for honing the inside of narrow carving gouges. The 3/4" and 1" widths are more suited to broader tools such as bench chisels and plane blades. Choose a width that matches the working width of your most frequently honed tools.

Veritas Honing Compound is designed to work with these felt wheels. Apply it directly to the spinning wheel to charge the surface before honing. When the wheel is properly dressed, it produces an edge comparable to most razor blades.

All wheels are bored for 5/8" diameter arbors, with a 1/2" bushing included. The maximum speed is 3600 rpm. Check that your polishing motor or grinder arbor matches one of these two sizes before ordering.
